Introducing restaurants that Nishitsu members have personally visited and tried in our “Nishitsu Gourmet” series.
This time,
Miyatama from Nishitsu tried…
the seasonal limited-time menu “Shin Shoga Nabe” at “日本料理 花ゆう”(reservation required for 2 or more servings; lunch ¥2,700, dinner ¥3,250) (price per person).
*Prices are as of March 19, 2019.

This Shin Shoga Nabe comes as a set with zosui rice porridge.

This Shin Shoga Nabe is also an original menu item from 日本料理 花ゆう that was featured in the Sankei Shimbun!
The hot pot ingredients are…

- pork belly
- fresh ginger
- broccoli
- lettuce

Look at how finely this fresh ginger is julienned!
Now that’s craftsmanship!!

And inside the pot are:
- water
- sake
- winter melon
- garlic
It’s a simple hot pot broth.

The ingredients also have a set order for adding them to the pot:
- Add the lettuce and broccoli to the boiling pot.
- Once the lettuce has softened, add the pork belly.
- Finally, add the fresh ginger, and once the meat is cooked through, it’s ready!

Wrap the pork belly and fresh ginger in lettuce,
then enjoy it with sesame sauce and yuzu kosho to taste♪

The texture of the fresh ginger.
The umami of the pork belly.
And the textures of the lettuce, broccoli, and winter melon!
The textures and savory flavor come together with the sweetness of the sesame sauce, and it’s delicious!
The crisp crunch of the fresh ginger is seriously addictive.
It also pairs perfectly with the pork belly!

The appetizer selection
changes depending on the day, but on this day it included:
- ikanago no kugini
- nanohana dressed with mustard
- asparagus and shrimp with yolk-vinegar sauce
A set of appetizers that really gives you a taste of spring!

The ikanago no kugini
has just the right firmness, and the rich sauce makes it irresistibly tasty!
The nanohana dressed with mustard
has soaked up the flavor nicely and has a gentle taste.

The asparagus and shrimp with yolk-vinegar sauce
is the perfect little palate cleanser.
The sweet simmered nagaimo shaped like cherry blossom petals and the vinegared lily bulb are delicious too!

And to finish, zosui!

This zosui is made by adding rice and egg white to the strained hot pot broth.
It has such a gentle flavor, it’s easy on the stomach too!

Served with the zosui are these pickles and moromi miso.
The pickles also have a gentle flavor and are very comforting.
The moromi miso is eaten with the zosui.
It gives the mild rice porridge a deeper, richer flavor.
Shin Shoga Nabe is a hot pot where you can enjoy all five tastes: sweetness, sourness, saltiness, bitterness, and umami♪

日本料理 花ゆう opened in Showa 60, the year the Hanshin Tigers won the championship.
From Showa 60 to Heisei 31, and on into the future after the new era name changes to “Reiwa” on May 1, 2019, the restaurant will continue serving comforting Japanese cuisine in Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi.
For lunch, they offer the “Hanayu Bento”, where you can enjoy 13 items including grilled dishes and fruit, as well as dishes like the “Tempura Set Meal”.
At night, the “Kaiseki Course” features seasonal ingredients.
Because they use carefully selected ingredients, you can enjoy a meal that warms both the heart and body.
