Did you know that the sacred sake offered every day to the deities of Ise at Ise Jingu is made by Nishinomiya’s proud sake brewer “Hakutaka”?
(This information was provided by Moja-san. They also provided all the images of Ise Jingu. Thank you!)
This article is brought to you by “ALBOBBY,” a salon that supports Nishitsu.
Why Hakutaka? How did sake from faraway Nishinomiya get chosen?
During the Meiji era, it seems that a negi (Shinto priest) from Ise Jingu came to Nishinomiya to serve as the chief priest of Hirota Shrine.
While serving there, he apparently became very fond of Hakutaka sake!
Then, after stepping down as chief priest and returning to Ise, he opened a liquor shop and recommended it as the sacred sake for Ise Jingu, or so the story goes maybe.
(There don’t seem to be any documents, so the details aren’t completely clear🙏)

To win over a chief priest and end up being chosen as sacred sake!!
Nishinomiya’s Hakutaka really is amazing!
It has apparently been offered every single day without fail for about 100 years since being selected as sacred sake.

Visitors can buy “Hakutaka sacred sake” here at Ise Jingu!

This is a rest area called the “Sanshuden” inside the Naiku of Ise Jingu.

It seems you can also buy the now very popular goshuincho stamp books here.

Even the box containing the sacred sake has the words “Ise Jingu Sacred Sake Hakutaka” on it!

Hakutaka Co., Ltd. is, of course, from Nishinomiya!
It makes you kind of happy when you’re traveling elsewhere and come across something from Nishinomiya😊
And amazingly! Even if you can’t make the trip to Ise, they apparently offer online shopping…
So we ordered it right away!

↑From Ise City to Nishinomiya. You could call it a reverse import😂

It comes in a beautiful milky-white bottle. The box is printed with “Jingu Sacred Sake Hakutaka”!

In Closing
Sacred sake is meant to be offered on a household Shinto altar, but unfortunately we don’t have one, so we’ll gratefully display it at the office🙏
Moja-san, thank you for the information!!
