From Hanshin Nishinomiya Station, head south along Fudabasuji Line and go a little past National Route 43, and you’ll find an izakaya called “たいのたい.”
Apparently it has been open for about 10 full years, but even though I pass along this road all the time, I had no idea this place existed.
That just shows how tucked away it is, but this restaurant was featured in “Nishinomiya Gourmet Masters.”
It feels like a hidden gem, which is exciting.

Food at “たいのたい”
“たいのたい” refers to a bone in a sea bream’s head that is shaped like a sea bream.
Just from the name, you’d expect the fish dishes to be good.
So I asked the owner to choose some dishes that would go well with sake.

This is “Midorikawa,” a sake from Uonuma.
It’s a sake with limited distribution that can only be purchased at authorized retailers, so the fact that they carry it means the restaurant has been approved by Midorikawa Shuzo.
I’ll be enjoying the food while sipping this chilled.

First up is “whelk dressed with wasabi.”
The aroma of wasabi and green onion pairs beautifully with the texture of the shellfish.
The wasabi has a nice presence, but it isn’t overpowering, striking just the right balance and making it very tasty.
It’s also stylish how it’s served in a glass rather than on a plate.

This is “seared Spanish mackerel.”
This may have been my first time ever having Spanish mackerel as tataki, but it was rich and fatty, with a fragrant seared surface, and it was really delicious.

Since the restaurant is called “たいのたい,” I definitely wanted to try sea bream too.
So here is the “stone-grilled taimeshi.”

First, I had it as is.
The rice is cooked in sea bream broth, with pieces of sea bream mixed in.
Because it’s stone-grilled, the crispy rice is fragrant too, making this a taimeshi where you can fully enjoy the umami of the sea bream.

Next, pour this broth over it and enjoy it as “sea bream ochazuke.”

This makes the flavor of the sea bream even more pronounced.
Turning it into ochazuke makes it light and easy to eat, and it may be the perfect dish to finish the meal.
This time, I chose the sake first and had the dishes paired with it, but of course they also have drinks other than sake, so it seems like you can enjoy all kinds of food-and-drink pairings here.
“たいのたい” Menu

The menu, especially for seafood, changes depending on what’s available.
There is also a blackboard inside the restaurant with “today’s recommendations,” and they can also discuss dishes that are not listed on the menu, so please ask at the restaurant for details.
Inside “たいのたい”
Inside, there are counter seats and table seats.

This is what the inside looks like.
The counter seats are on the right, and the table seats are on the left.
Exterior of “たいのたい”
It’s along Fudabasuji Line, but it’s in a spot that’s a little hard to find.

Go down the narrow path next to “はっぱや,” which faces the street.

Use this sign as your landmark.

Follow this path all the way to the end.

This is the entrance to the restaurant.
