There’s a restaurant called “天ぷら広場 食道” under the Hankyu elevated tracks near Imazu Station.
It opened about four years ago and has become a popular spot where you can enjoy authentic tempura at reasonable prices.
We heard they have an even better-value menu at lunchtime, so this time we stopped by for lunch.
“天ぷら広場 食道” Food
From the lunch menu, we ordered the “Today’s Set Meal” (780 yen).
Here it is.
All this for 780 yen. Pretty amazing, right?
These small side dishes are “potato salad,” “kinpira gobo,” and “parboiled chicken.”
This is the “mini karaage.”
It’s classic fried chicken: crisp on the outside and juicy inside.
It was well seasoned and delicious.
This is the “vegetable tempura.”
It’s an assortment of tempura, including “nanohana,” “eggplant,” and “onion.”
All the vegetables pair well with oil, and the sweetness of the “eggplant” and the slight bitterness of the “nanohana” stand out even more when served as tempura.
Vegetables contain a lot of moisture, so I imagine they’re hard to fry well, but every piece was fried beautifully and tasted great.
That’s professional skill for you.
It also comes with “rice” and “pork miso soup.”
For the rice, you can choose either regular white rice or rice topped with “fried garlic” (something like chili crisp), and refills are free.
To say it again, you get this much authentic food for 780 yen, so it’s a lunch with outstanding value!
