Now, for our hugely popular (?) “3,000-yen izakaya drinking” series, we left Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi behind and headed to Hanshin Nishinomiya this time.
The place we visited is “えびす大黒 にしのみやえべっさん店,” located right in front of Hanshin Nishinomiya Station.
Apparently, if you drink standing at the counter, draft beer is just 199 yen a glass.
Expectations are high again this time.

Challenge Start!
Let’s get started right away.
“Draft Beer” (199 yen)!
Cheap!
For a snack, this was the first thing I ordered.
It’s the “Beef Tendon Croquette” (180 yen).
It had that classic, old-fashioned croquette feel and was really good.
Perfect with beer.
Second beer.
Next up is “Salt-Grilled Gizzard” (280 yen).
Basically, everything on the food menu is the kind of thing that makes you want more beer.
They’ve really thought this through.
So here comes beer number three.
Can’t stop.
For the third dish, I ordered the “Seared Pork Belly” (380 yen).
The sauce brings out the sweetness of the pork fat, and the mustard adds a nice accent.
Naturally, the beer keeps going down……
Already on beer number four.
Even at 199 yen a glass, I should probably start being careful.
After doing the math, it looked like I still had some room in the budget, so I ordered “Fried Chicken” (380 yen).
It’s exactly the kind of fried chicken you’re imagining.
You can’t go wrong with that flavor.
Beer number five.
I almost forgot to take the photo, so it’s already about half gone……
It’s about time to wrap things up, so I’m going to order the final dish.
For the finish, I went with the “Medium Sushi Roll (Natto)” (450 yen).
As you’d expect from a medium roll, it’s pretty filling.
Now for the nerve-racking bill time, but actually, it feels like I still have a little room this time.

Ta-da!!
2,878 yen!!
Just as expected, there was still a little wiggle room.
Even though I drank five beers.
I got a real taste of the power of standing bars.
To sum up what I ordered: draft beer x5, beef tendon croquette, salt-grilled gizzard, seared pork belly, fried chicken, and medium sushi roll (natto).

Still, the food is cheap too……

It’s located right outside the south exit of Hanshin Nishinomiya Station.
Here’s what the outside of the shop looks like.
It’s a little confusing because it shares the same premises as the sushi restaurant Ebisu Suisan (formerly Uogashi no Sushi Ebisu), but the standing bar counter seems to be run by Ebisu Daikoku.
They also seem to offer takeout, and the menu is posted outside.
Draft beer and highballs are 199 yen, but only if you’re drinking standing up.
