On Wednesday, August 28, GPS runner Naoki Shimizu visited Nishitsu (Nishinomiya Tsushin).
“Naoki Shimizu? Who’s that?”
“What’s a GPS runner?”
So first, we’d like to introduce him.

What is GPS-RUN?
GPS-RUN, created by Shimizu, is a style of running where you use a dedicated app’s feature that colors in the route you ran on a map, allowing you to draw pictures, words, and more.
The finished result looks like this.
Apparently, it’s also been called “the modern-day Nazca Lines.”
Shimizu is currently active around Japan as a GPS runner and as an ambassador for adidas Group’s runtastic GPS tracking app.
Naoki Shimizu Profile

Shimizu is from Nishinomiya City and worked as a teacher at Fukatsu Elementary School until last year.
He now works as a GPS runner and has been featured on TV and in other media.
By the way, he apparently holds a Guinness World Record for bungee jumping.
As of April 28, he’s also active as a writer for this site, “Nishinomiya Tsushin”! His nickname is “Sensei @ Nishitsu.”

Confessing His Love to Nishinomiya Was the First Step
For his first GPS-RUN, Shimizu drew “Nishinomiya LOVE” and confessed his love on Valentine’s Day to his beloved hometown, Nishinomiya.

Just how much does he love this place? Right?
A Collaboration Project Between Shimizu and Nishinomiya Tsushin Begins!
So, the reason Shimizu came to Nishitsu this time was because he suggested, “Wouldn’t it be fun to talk about doing something exciting in Nishinomiya together with Nishitsu?”
Of course, we at Nishitsu thought it would be fun to do something with Shimizu too, and we were grateful for the invitation, so we had a very positive conversation about all kinds of ideas.
And with that, a collaboration project between Shimizu and Nishitsu is getting started!
We’ll be posting updates on the collaboration project as articles from time to time, so stay tuned.
