You can find our roundup article on “Izakaya for 3,000 yen” (Hanshin Nishinomiya edition) here↓
When you want to eat and drink cheaply at an izakaya, yakitori places and standing bars usually have the edge.
But this time, we changed things up a bit and visited the seafood stall-style restaurant “おくまん 西宮店.”
It’s located along Route 2, roughly between Hanshin Nishinomiya and JR Nishinomiya.
Were we able to keep it within 3,000 yen?

Challenge Start!

First, we started with a “Kirin Ichiban Shibori Draft Beer (medium)” (299 yen).

For food, we ordered this “Okuman Mori” sashimi platter (699 yen).
It’s a five-kind assortment of sashimi and is apparently the shop’s most popular menu item.
The types of sashimi vary depending on what they’ve stocked that day, but on this day it was horse mackerel, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and greater amberjack.
Within the 3,000 yen limit, this was a bit of an aggressive order, but the value is excellent.
This time, I’m going to see how many beers I can get through with this one dish.

First up, the second beer.
Sashimi really does go well with beer.
Highballs and sake would also be great choices.

Before I knew it, I was already on my third beer.
I should probably pace myself a little…
In the end, I managed three beers with just the one “Okuman Mori” dish.

Since we were here, I decided to stick with seafood to the end and ordered the “Sazae Tsuboyaki” grilled turban shell (399 yen).
The turban shell meat is taken out once, cut up, returned to the shell, and then grilled.
For a place calling itself a stall-style restaurant, they do some pretty careful prep work.

And with the grilled turban shell as a snack, one more beer…
We must be getting pretty close to the limit by now.
For the finale, I’ll try ordering another one of their specialties.

This is their specialty, “Aburi Saba Bo-zushi” seared mackerel pressed sushi (399 yen).
The harmony of the seared mackerel, kombu, and the shiso leaf and sesame mixed into the sushi rice is just right.
It may be hard to tell from the photo, but it’s actually quite large.
This time, we kept the amount of food a little modest and focused on value for money, so how did the bill turn out?
Let’s announce it!
The total was…
Ta-da!!
2,900 yen!!
A splendid success.
I said we kept the food on the lighter side, but I still ended up pretty full.
Both my taste buds and stomach were very satisfied.
This time, we ordered four Kirin Ichiban Shibori Draft Beers (medium), Okuman Mori, Sazae Tsuboyaki, and Aburi Saba Bo-zushi.
That was it!
Seafood Stall “おくまん 西宮店” Menu

Here is the menu.
As you’d expect, there’s plenty of seafood, but their chicken nanban is also said to be a specialty.
Since it’s seafood, the offerings can change depending on what’s available that day, so please ask the staff for details.
Draft beer is also reasonably priced at 299 yen per glass.
Seafood Stall “おくまん 西宮店” Exterior
It’s a relatively large restaurant along Route 2, so it’s easy to find.

Here is the exterior of the restaurant.
There are lots of characters for “fish” on the storefront, giving it a very “seafood!!” kind of atmosphere.
The menu is also posted outside, so you can check what kind of fish they have that day before going in.
