This Nishitsu job listing is for recruiting “Gakken Classroom teachers”!

What exactly does a teacher who supports children at a Gakken Classroom do?

This time, we visited “Netz Terrace Nishinomiya Classroom” and asked the teacher all about it!

We spoke with Ms. Noda 😍
Let’s hear what she had to say!

I realized that opening a classroom at home would let me teach alongside my own children too, which was a win-win

ーPlease tell us what made you become a Gakken Classroom teacher.
Ms. Noda: I had worked as a nursery teacher before, so I thought I wanted a job where I could work with children.
When my younger child started elementary school and I was thinking it might be time to start working again, I happened to see a flyer recruiting instructors for Gakken Classroom. That was what got me started.
ーTell us about the working hours.
Gakken Classroom work takes place after school, so at first I wondered how that would work.
But at the information session, I heard that if I opened a classroom at home, I could teach my own children together with the other students, making it a win-win, and that really clicked for me.
My husband was busy with work, and while the children were still small, I wanted to focus on raising them, so a home classroom was the perfect fit.

ーPlease tell us about your home classroom and the second classroom you opened at Netz Terrace Nishinomiya two and a half years ago.
Ms. Noda: It has been 15 years since I opened my home classroom.
Right around the time my younger child graduated from high school, I was asked if I would be interested in running a classroom at Netz Terrace Nishinomiya. That was the starting point.
Unlike a home classroom, there are venue rental costs, so at first I wasn’t confident about running it as a business. But once raising my children had settled down, I decided to give it a try with the feeling of, “All right! This is the start of my second-life challenge!”

ーHow has it been taking on that challenge?
Ms. Noda: I’ve had more new encounters with children.
With the environment being different from my home classroom, I was able to approach it with a fresh mindset too.
The Netz Terrace Nishinomiya Classroom has glass walls and can be seen from outside, so it gives me a good kind of nervous energy.
Seeing the children grow is what makes the work rewarding

ーPlease tell us what is rewarding and what is challenging about teaching and running a Gakken Classroom.
Ms. Noda: Gakken Classroom offers individual instruction, so I identify where each child is struggling and provide guidance tailored to each one.
When they become able to do something they couldn’t before, or when they become able to concentrate, seeing that growth is what makes it rewarding.
Every child has a different personality, so when I prepare before class, I think about each child’s face as I plan their worksheets and assignments. It’s hard work, but it’s also an enjoyable time.

ーDo you have any goals for the future?
Ms. Noda: I hope I can keep facing the children every day and help each one move even a little bit in a better direction.
Also, right now, because of the impact of COVID-19, many activities are restricted, and I think children are feeling constrained too.
Children live within very small communities, so they have worries of their own.
Gakken Classroom is a place for studying, but I hope it can also become a comfortable place outside of school and home where they can feel “at ease”.
It was really by chance that I opened the Netz Terrace Nishinomiya Classroom, and it is also by chance that the children come to Gakken Classroom. I hope these chance encounters become good ones, and that even though it is only a small part of their long lives, I can make that part a little brighter.
I think it is the perfect job for people who love children

ーWhat kind of person would you like to become a Gakken teacher?
Ms. Noda: Definitely someone who loves children.
I think it is perfect for people who enjoy working with children.
Especially for people who have children of their own, it’s a win-win because their children can learn at home together with other children.

ーLastly, do you have a message for Nishitsu readers?
Ms. Noda: Being a Gakken Classroom teacher is a very rewarding job where you can see children’s growth up close.
I wanted to be home when my children came back from school, so the benefit of being able to work from home felt very significant to me. I also think it’s wonderful that there is no retirement age.
Gakken Classroom is not a job where you are employed by a company; rather, you start your own business as a sole proprietor. I think that takes courage, but that is also what makes it rewarding work.
I once heard a student tell a friend, “I used to go to ○○ cram school, but I don’t need to anymore. I found Gakken!” Hearing that made me so happy, like, “They found us!”
Since you would be opening your own classroom, we would not be working together directly, but as instructors, our thoughts and worries are the same. Why not try becoming a Gakken Classroom teacher?
