We heard that “Shukugawaza”, which is mainly active in Nishinomiya, is opening its stage rehearsal room to anyone for free, so we went to take a look〜!

What is Shukugawaza?
“Shukugawaza” is a stage production company founded by vocalist Fumie Asakawa (center in the back row of the photo) and playwright Shibun Isayama (second from the right in the back row). In recent years, they have been staging approachable “Kamigata Musicals” that use familiar Kansai dialect.
Another feature of “Shukugawaza” is its barrier-free performances with sign language interpretation and subtitles!
This time, they have also created a “Braille program”, making it possible for people with hearing or visual impairments to enjoy the performance together〜!
A “charity donation box” is set up in the rehearsal room, so visitors can support the staging of barrier-free performances.
A Look at Rehearsals for Shukugawaza’s New Kamigata Musical “Zaza: Beauvoir’s Eternal Lover”
↑This time, we visited a rehearsal at Koshikiiwa Public Hall near Kurakuenguchi Station!
↑The new performance, “Zaza: Beauvoir’s Eternal Lover,” is a story centered on French female philosopher Beauvoir and her female lover Zaza, with figures such as fellow philosopher Sartre and writer Sagan also appearing.
Reading the synopsis, it seemed like it might be difficult because so many philosophers and writers are mentioned, but…
↑Wait, cat ears!? Singing out proudly here is opera singer Masashi Suwabe, who plays Fosca! By the way, the lyrics are something like “nya nya nya〜!”…!
↑Just when you think it might be a difficult story, there are also fun scenes like this〜! Since the dialogue is mainly in Kansai dialect, it is a musical that feels familiar and easy to enjoy for people from Kansai.
↑Since this is a barrier-free performance, all the dialogue and lyrics come with sign language interpretation! The sign language interpreters do more than simply interpret; on stage, they appear as “angels”, naturally incorporating sign language interpretation into the play.
The way they deliver each line with so much emotion might draw you in even if you don’t know sign language!?
↑All of the music consists of original songs created for this performance by composer Junko Shirai! You can also enjoy live performances by an erhu player, who plays the traditional Chinese instrument, and a pianist during the show!
↑The rehearsal keeps heating up! It’s exciting to witness up close the moment when theater and musicals are being created〜! I got chills from the powerful performance of opera singer Hiroki Fujimoto, who plays Zaza after she becomes immortal!
