It looks like Hankyu Bus and Hanshin Bus fares will be going up this October.
(Thanks to Atama ga Bossa Nova @ Nishitsu SP, Metro-san, and Edamame Kyanako-san for the tips.)
Hanshin Bus↓
Quoted from the official Hanshin Bus website
The fare within Nishinomiya City is currently 230 yen, but it looks like it will increase by 10 yen from Tuesday, October 1 this year, becoming 240 yen.
Hankyu Bus↓
Quoted from the official Hankyu Bus Co., Ltd. website
There’s a lot written there, but since the buses that used to cost 220 yen before last year’s fare hike became 230 yen, I think the 230-yen buses will become 240 yen this time too.
Last year’s one↓
Quoted from kaitei230901unchin.pdf
This is Hankyu Bus’s route map within Nishinomiya City. The buses seem to run through areas where getting around by train might be tough.
Why are the fares going up?
There seem to be several reasons why fares are increasing.
- Passenger numbers have not returned to pre-COVID levels, so revenue is low
- There aren’t enough drivers, so working conditions need to be improved
- Fuel costs and other prices are rising
- There is a need to introduce environmentally friendly EV buses
Finally
Maybe this is just the way things are going these days. If self-driving buses become possible, problems like this might be solved all at once.
