The yakitori restaurant “とりてつ,” which used to be in Toda-cho near Hanshin Nishinomiya, was renovated a little while ago and reopened as an izakaya called “春日.”
Since it used to be a yakitori place, the yakitori menu is still there, but it looks like they’ve also added a la carte dishes, kushikatsu, hot pot dishes, and more.
The owner is from Kochi Prefecture, so Kochi dishes and local sake are apparently among the specialties.
They also often set up booths at various events held around Nishinomiya.
This time, we visited the izakaya “春日.”

Challenge Start!

The “tsukidashi” appetizer (200 yen) was curry-flavored harusame glass noodles.
It’s the kind of flavor that really gets your appetite going.
Now, for drinks, since we’re here, I thought I’d try some local sake from Kochi Prefecture.

For my first glass, I chose this “久礼(くれ)” (450 yen).
It was my first time trying it, and it had a dry, clean taste.
I was told it has a little more character than the sake from around this area, but for me, it was very easy to drink.

For the food, Kochi again…
And when you think of Kochi, this is the dish, right?
It’s “Katsuo Tataki Kochi-style” (680 yen).
It looks a little different from the seared bonito tataki we usually imagine, but maybe this is the Kochi style.
You can choose garlic or ginger as the condiment for seasoning, and this time I went with garlic.
One distinctive feature is the huge amount of onion piled on top.
It was very tasty and paired perfectly with the sake.

For my second glass, I ordered another Kochi sake, “土佐鶴” (400 yen) (the image is for reference).
“土佐鶴” is a well-known sake brewery even here in Kansai.
This one was also dry and refreshing.

Next up was “Salt-grilled Tai Kama” (sea bream collar) (450 yen).
Sea bream head is delicious, and it goes so well with Japanese sake.
The saltiness was just right, making the flavor of the sake stand out even more.
Now, for the final dish, they have plenty of rice and noodle options, so it was hard to choose…

They had an unusual noodle dish called “Nama Shoyu Ramen,” so I decided to try that.
It comes with clear soup and costs 500 yen.
You pour fresh soy sauce and vinegar over thick Chinese-style noodles, then squeeze sudachi citrus over them before eating.
It had a very light, refreshing taste, making it a great noodle dish to finish the meal with.
It was really delicious.
So, how much did this meal come to?
Here it is!
2,948 yen!!
That was the total!
It’s a great deal for enjoying this much Kochi sake and food at that price.
This time, we ordered: tsukidashi, 久礼, 土佐鶴, Katsuo Tataki Kochi-style, salt-grilled tai kama, and Nama Shoyu Ramen.
That’s what we had!
