Playwright Oriza Hirata has been appointed as a policy advisor for Nishinomiya City.
Hirata is known for founding the theater company “Seinendan,” which he still leads today, and is one of the playwrights who has had a major influence on Japanese theater.
While directing and producing many stage works, he has also held positions at numerous local governments and educational institutions as an academic expert.
He has currently relocated to Toyooka in Hyogo Prefecture together with his theater company, and is reportedly set to become president of the “Professional College of International Tourism and Arts (tentative name),” which is scheduled to open in Toyooka City.
His appointment as a policy advisor for Nishinomiya City apparently came about after Mayor Ishii personally made the offer.
It sounds like Nishinomiya City will be able to receive valuable advice from an expert’s perspective on promoting culture and the arts, as well as making effective use of municipal halls and other facilities.
