“They’ve made tennis friends and look forward to every lesson!” The excitement level is impressive
This junior tennis class is run by Nishinomiya City Tennis Association, one of the Nishitsu Friends. We asked parents whose children actually attend what they think.

“My child has made friends through tennis and looks forward to going every time. The day before, they get so excited that they can’t sleep (laughs).”
I get it! When I was a kid, I was the type who couldn’t sleep the night before a school trip or sports day because I was so excited. It must feel something like that.
What’s so good about tennis?
We also asked about the benefits unique to tennis.

- It builds the foundation for athletic ability!
Tennis is a full-body sport that involves running, stopping, hitting, jumping, and making decisions. It’s perfect for the golden age of development (ages 9 to 12)! - Kids naturally learn manners and etiquette, too
Greetings before and after matches and practice, like “Nice to meet you!” and “Thank you very much!”, are part of the basics. It’s great that children can develop cooperation and good manners as well. - It can be enjoyed individually or as a team
As an individual sport, it helps build focus, and when playing doubles with a partner, it also develops teamwork.
Here are the main features of the junior tennis class
This junior tennis class is run by the Nishinomiya City Tennis Association. The two big highlights are these!
1. Four levels of balls are used to match each child’s skill level

Red → Orange → Green → Normal, with four stages of balls in total. Kids start with softer balls, get used to the racket and ball, and can step up at a comfortable pace, so they really feel their progress. That makes it fun!
2. An amazing price of effectively 500 yen per session
6,000 yen for 12 lessons(There are no refunds even if lessons are canceled due to rain or other reasons). Being able to play tennis this seriously for 500 yen per lesson is really appreciated. Plus, it’s morning tennis from 7:15 to 8:45, so it finishes before 9! After that, there’s still plenty of time for cram school, other lessons, or a family outing. It’s also great for building an early-rising habit.
More comments from other parents
Here are some comments from other parents whose children attend.

“This is their fourth term, and although they couldn’t hit the ball at first, now I can really feel that they’ve gotten better. They seem to love practice and are so into it that they even talk about serves at home.”
It must feel great when you can land a tennis serve cleanly.

“Once they started being able to hit the ball where they wanted, tennis became even more fun for them, and they started entering matches from the summer.”
Once you can hit where you’re aiming, thinking about strategy must be fun too. Winning a match would feel amazing.Though losing would be a real shock💦

“Her older brother was attending first, so she kept saying she absolutely wanted to join once she became a 1st grader. It was her first time holding a racket, but she’s still enjoying going now.”
Seeing a sibling go must make it something to look up to.

But from 7:15 to 8:45 in the morning, they’re free before noon, so it’s easy to make plans afterward. If you’re looking for a way to get your child moving, definitely take a look.
