JR Koshienguchi Station’s south exit ticket gate will become “IC card only.”
(Information provided by Teruterubozu-san)
It will start from the first train on Friday, February 27, 2026.
The south exit ticket gate is on the south side of the station, the side with the Hanshin Bus stop.
Once it becomes IC-only, you won’t be able to insert magnetic tickets (paper tickets) anymore.

Be careful when taking limited express trains or the Shinkansen!
The “Midori no Kippu” tickets used for limited express trains and the Shinkansen will only be accepted at the north exit ticket gate.
If you live on the south side of the station, you’ll need to go through the underpass and enter from the north exit ticket gate, so it’s a good idea to allow an extra couple of minutes.
If you’re thinking, “I absolutely want to ride with an IC card!”, try using services like Smart EX. With e5489, ticketless limited express tickets are also available. See the article below for details.
Finally
Even though IC cards have become widespread, this may feel inconvenient when taking the Shinkansen or limited express trains. These days, you can ride the Shinkansen with just one IC card, and ticketless options are cheaper too, so make good use of online reservations.
Teruterubozu-san, thank you for the tip!!
