There’s a bakery and cafe called “エスケール” in Yamaguchi-cho, Nishinomiya.
Apparently, their hamburgers are really popular, and I’d been wanting to go for a while.
But since it’s in Yamaguchi-cho, it hasn’t been easy for me as a bicycle user to find a chance to visit. This time, though, I happened to be in the Yamaguchi-cho area for another story, so I took the opportunity to stop by “エスケール.”
After a 30-minute bus ride from JR Nishinomiya-Najio Station, I finally arrived at the long-awaited “エスケール.”
“エスケール” Hamburger
The standard burger (950 yen) comes with a patty, lettuce, red onion, tomato, and buns, and you can freely add toppings.
This time, I added “cheddar cheese” (100 yen), “avocado” (200 yen), and “homemade bacon” (250 yen).
The burger comes with salad and fries.
It’s a very hearty hamburger, so you press it down with your hands and eat it wrapped in the paper provided on the table.

As you’d expect from a bakery, the fluffy, chewy buns are really delicious.
They’re soft but still sturdy, so even when you press the hamburger down with your hands, the buns hold everything together, and their texture still comes through nicely.
Overall, the seasoning isn’t too strong. It’s a hamburger that brings out the flavors of the ingredients, and the patty in particular gives you a direct taste of the meat.
The lettuce, tomato, and red onion were all fresh, and the balance with the patty and buns was excellent.
The cheese and avocado toppings added nice accents, but the one I especially recommend above all is the “homemade bacon.”
The bacon fat and smoky aroma brought out the flavors of the patty and the other ingredients even more.
It was the kind of hamburger that makes it easy to understand why this place is so popular despite being a little hard to get to.
After the meal, I had this “hot coffee” (150 yen).
During lunchtime, drinks are 150 yen.
