Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus, I think restaurants, especially izakaya and similar places, have been forced to close temporarily, and even when they are open, fewer customers are coming in, making business quite difficult.
So at Nishi2, we’re planning to continue our izakaya feature in a “drinking at home” style centered around takeout.
There are quite a few places that have long offered takeout menus, as well as shops that have recently started selling takeout items.
When you can’t go out for drinks, why not pick up some takeout and enjoy a drink at home?
This time, we visited 立呑み「えだ屋」 in the Shin-Koshien Shopping Street, a standing bar we’ve featured on Nishi2 before.
Here’s the previous article↓
Apparently, you can get their specialty “horumon-yaki” and other dishes for takeout.
「えだ屋」Food
From the takeout menu, we bought “horumon-yaki” (500 yen) and “yakisoba” (650 yen) to bring home.

This is how it comes for takeout.
Since it’s wrapped in aluminum foil, it seems to retain heat surprisingly well. I cycled home from Koshien for 30 minutes, and it was still warm.

This is the “yakisoba” (the larger pack).
It’s a classic yakisoba with slightly thicker noodles, pork, cabbage, green onions, bonito flakes, and red pickled ginger.
But compared with the yakisoba you might buy at a festival stall, it has lots of ingredients and is very tasty.
The seasoning is on the rich side, just the kind of flavor that goes well with drinks.

And this is their specialty, “horumon-yaki.”
Horumon, cabbage, bean sprouts, green onions, and other ingredients are grilled with their special sauce.
I’ve had it before, and apparently they use wagyu horumon. It’s wonderfully plump and delicious (and of course, it goes well with drinks).
It’s a recommended dish that I’d really like you to try at least once.
With these two dishes, I was able to drink two tall cans of “Premium Malt’s.”
That’s exactly 1 liter, so in terms of draft beer mugs, maybe about 2 to 3 glasses.
We also filmed it, so if you’re interested, take a look here↓
