we tried a “glassblowing” experience at Glass Studio Yamamura inside Sakegura-dori Rengakan (#^.^#)

What the Glassblowing Experience Was Like

First, you choose what you want to make and what color you want ヽ(^。^)ノ
For the piece, I chose a tumbler, and for the color I picked Nishitsu’s orange, with white as an accent!

As an infection prevention measure, a straw is attached to the mouthpiece (^^)

They place the colored glass you chose on the table for you (^^)

You roll the hot glass around to attach the colored glass\(^o^)/

After heating it up, it’s finally time for the real glassblowing-like step\(^o^)/

When I blew hard after they said “Okay, go,” guess what!

Do-over (^_^;)
Was it a matter of lung capacity… or maybe a matter of going for it a little too much….I honestly just blew strongly like they told me to (・_・;)

You don’t inflate it to its finished size all at once; you heat it and blow it up several times\(^o^)/

Once it gets to a certain size, you use a tool to narrow the part that will become the rim so it’s easier to detach later!

Next, while I keep turning it round and round, the instructor adds a quick swirl pattern (^^)

Next, we make the bottom of the glass! Since a wooden board is pressed against the super-hot glass, a little smoke comes out (^_^;)

Then they press a rod-like thing firmly against it to make an indentation in the glass ヽ(^o^)丿The instructor was really putting strength into it!

Another instructor attaches a support rod to the bottom, then taps it with a tool to detach it!

After the tap, it looks like this ヽ(^。^)ノ

You repeat the process of heating and widening it

The camera captured how soft the glass looked!! Streeetchy (*^^)v

Thanks to the instructor, who guided me through every step, it was safely finished (#^.^#)
Glass has to be cooled slowly, so you can’t take it home the same day!
You can either come pick up your finished piece in person or have it mailed to you.

Ta-da! It turned out really nice (#^.^#)
