This Nishitsu job posting is for recruiting “Gakken Classroom teachers”!

What kind of work do teachers at Gakken Classroom do as they support children?

This time, we visited “Netz Terrace Nishinomiya Classroom” and asked one of the teachers all about it!

We spoke with Ms. Noda😍
Let’s hear what she had to say!

I realized that opening a classroom at home would let me teach alongside my own children too, making it a win-win

ーWhat made you decide to become a Gakken Classroom teacher, Ms. Noda?
Ms. Noda: I had worked as a nursery school teacher before, so I thought I’d like a job where I could work with children.
When my younger child entered elementary school and I was thinking it might be time to start working again, I happened to see a flyer recruiting instructors for Gakken Classroom. That was what got me interested.
ーCould you tell us about your working hours?
Gakken Classroom lessons take place after school, so at first I wondered how that would work.
But at the information session, I heard that if I opened a classroom at home, I could teach my own children at the same time, which would be a win-win, and that made me realize it could work.
My husband was busy with work, and while the children were still young, I wanted to focus on raising them, so a home classroom was the perfect fit for me.

ーCould you tell us about your home classroom and the second classroom you opened at Netz Terrace Nishinomiya two and a half years ago?
Ms. Noda: It has been 15 years since I opened my home classroom.
Right around the time my younger child graduated from high school, I was asked, “Would you like to hold classes at Netz Terrace Nishinomiya?” That was what led to it.
Unlike my home classroom, I would have to pay rental fees for the venue, so at first I wasn’t confident about running it as a business. But since my child-rearing had settled down, I decided to try it with the feeling of, “All right! From here, I’ll take on a new challenge in the second chapter of my life!”

ーHow has taking on that challenge been?
Ms. Noda: It has brought many new encounters with children.
With a different environment from my home classroom, I was able to approach it with a fresh mindset too.
Netz Terrace Nishinomiya Classroom has glass walls and can be seen from outside, so it gives me a good kind of sense of focus and responsibility.
Seeing the children grow is what makes the work rewarding

ーWhat do you find rewarding and challenging about teaching and running a Gakken Classroom?
Ms. Noda: Gakken Classroom provides individual instruction, so I identify where each child is struggling and provide guidance suited to each individual.
When they become able to do something they couldn’t do before, or when they become able to concentrate better, seeing that growth is really rewarding.
Everyone has a different personality, so before class, I think about each child’s face as I prepare worksheets and assignments. It’s challenging, but it’s also an enjoyable time.

ーDo you have any plans or hopes for the future?
Ms. Noda: I hope to keep working with the children every day and help each one move even a little bit in a better direction.
Also, with the effects of COVID-19, many activities are still restricted, and I think children are feeling confined too.
Children live within very small communities, and they have their own worries in their own way.
Gakken Classroom is a place to study, but I hope it can also become a comfortable place outside school and home where they can “feel at ease”.
It was also by chance that I opened the Netz Terrace Nishinomiya Classroom, and it is by chance that the children come to Gakken Classroom. But I hope these chance encounters become good ones, and that I can brighten even a small part of their long lives.
I think it’s the perfect job for people who love children

ーWhat kind of person would you like to become a Gakken teacher?
Ms. Noda: Above all, someone who loves children.
I think it’s perfect for people who enjoy working with children.
Especially for those who have children of their own, it’s a win-win because their children can learn at home together with other children.

ーFinally, do you have a message for Nishitsu readers?
Ms. Noda: Being a Gakken Classroom teacher is a very rewarding job where you can see children’s growth up close.
I wanted to be at home when my children came back from school, so the benefit of being able to work from home felt very significant to me. I also think it’s wonderful that there is no retirement age.
Gakken Classroom is not a job where you are employed by a company. Instead, you start your own business as a sole proprietor, so I think it takes courage, but that also makes it a very fulfilling job.
I once heard a student tell a friend, “I used to go to ○○ cram school, but I don’t need to anymore. I found Gakken!” Hearing that made me so happy, like, “They found us!”
Since this is about opening your own classroom, we wouldn’t be working together directly, but the feelings and concerns we have as instructors are the same. Why not try becoming a Gakken Classroom teacher?
