Road markings saying “Pedestrians First” and “Cyclists Slow Down” have appeared on the sidewalk along Yamate Kansen near Shukugawa.
(This information was provided by Shige-san. Thank you!)

From around Shukugawa Station toward Ashiya

Just west of Hankyu Shukugawa Station, in front of the Italian restaurant “Da Cencino”

Shige-san, thank you for providing the photos.
There was also this bicycle stop mark 👀
I was curious, so I contacted City Hall to ask about it.
- In July 2020, the Nishinomiya City Bicycle Use Environment Improvement Plan was established
- It is a plan to improve the environment so bicycles can be used “safely and comfortably” in the city
- Based on that improvement plan, pictograms are being installed
Apparently markings like “Pedestrians First” and “Cyclists Slow Down” are called pictograms.

In front of Shukugawa Church
You see ones like this pretty often, right?↓↓
At Fudabasuji Line
The routes for pedestrians and bicycles are separated, so it’s easy to understand (^_^)

This is a mark on the pedestrian path along National Route 2

So that both people walking and people on bicycles can go out “safely and comfortably,”
pictograms are being installed on sidewalks where bicycles are allowed to ride♪
When the pedestrian illustration has the words “Pedestrians First”
and the bicycle illustration has “Slow Down” written on it, it’s easy to understand~

Pictograms had been installed all the way to around the city border between Nishinomiya and Ashiya.
In Closing
It would be nice to have an environment where both pedestrians and people riding bicycles follow the rules and can move around town with peace of mind~
I also often get around by bicycle, so I want to follow the bicycle rules properly and ride comfortably.
On pedestrian-only roads, please get off your bicycle and walk it.
