Have you ever had trouble figuring out how to dispose of used small appliances?
This article is brought to you by Nishitsu-supporting dental clinic “Nishinomiya Kitaguchi Dental and Oral Surgery, open year-round.”
How does everyone usually get rid of them?
Used Small Appliance Collection Boxes

To be honest, I’d been having trouble figuring out what to do with my small appliances.
Then, when I happened to stop by the Yamaguchi Branch Office, I found something called a “Used Small Appliance Collection Box”.

*Only items that fit into the collection box slot, 20cm × 35cm, are accepted.
Computers are not accepted, but it looks like small household appliances can be placed in the collection box!
If you’ve been keeping unused small appliances at home because you didn’t know how to dispose of them, take them to a nearby collection box.
Collection box locations↓↓

There are 35 locations in total.
- Computers are not accepted.
- Please dispose of batteries, fluorescent lights, and similar items as non-burnable garbage. However, for small rechargeable batteries and button batteries, please use the collection boxes set up at participating recycling stores.
- Please erase any personal information registered on mobile phones or other appliances at your own responsibility.
- Please note that items cannot be returned once they have been placed in the box.
- Please dispose of discs such as CDs and DVDs as burnable garbage.
- Only items used in ordinary households are accepted. Small appliances from offices are not eligible.
- Items covered by the Home Appliance Recycling Law (TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, clothes dryers, refrigerators, and freezers) should either be collected by the retailer or brought to a designated collection site.

Finally
It seems collection boxes have been added and relocated since around 2017, but I didn’t know about them until now. I thought some Nishitsu readers might not know either, so I decided to write this article.
