This is an initiative to use the unwanted item buyback service “Oikura” to reuse or repair unwanted items that still have life left in them, and reduce the amount of waste that needs to be processed.

“Oikura” is a website where you can compare buyback prices for unwanted items from multiple shops with a single appraisal request, and then sell them.
Basically, it’s like an online recycle shop!
What’s more, with “Oikura,” you can apparently sell large items like home appliances and furniture yourself from home, even if they’re hard to pack or ship 💪!!
Since Oikura member shops handle the exchange of unwanted items directly, the city expects to reduce the transport, staff time, and costs that were previously needed when disposing of unwanted items.
It’s a win-win-win all around!

At our house too, we’ve got things like a dresser and chairs the kids used when they were little, and I’m always wondering, “How are we supposed to move this?” and “It still seems usable, so it feels like a waste…” 🙋 haha.
With the city’s bulky waste collection, it can sometimes take quite a while after making a reservation before they actually come, so it might be worth taking the extra step and getting an appraisal through “Oikura”!
