Nishinomiya City Opens an Official Shop on Mercari
It looks like Nishinomiya City opened an official shop on Mercari on October 24. (Source)
The idea is to reuse oversized garbage.
Items that have sold↓

A seasonal item for the coming months!! It’s a Christmas tree. It’s even decorated!!
1,000 yen is cheap!! Apparently it’s 120cm tall

A T-fal electric kettle sold for 2,000 yen.

They even properly upload photos of the underside, where people might be concerned about dirt and grime. An excellent seller
I’m guessing this must be handled by a city employee who has experience listing items on Mercari! What do you think?

The product description also clearly says it’s oversized garbage.
“No professional cleaning will be performed” — well, of course not.
You Need to Go to Nishinomiyahama to Pick Items Up
Usually, Mercari involves a lot of shipping, but since this is within the city, it’s local pickup. It’s kind of like Jimoty.
The pickup location was listed as the Nishinomiya City Environmental Affairs Department Office.
Note: This is not the Recycling Plaza or the collection location!
(This was listed incorrectly before. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to users and everyone involved.)
The entrance is shown below↓

There were also two parking spaces for visitors, including one for people with disabilities.
The entrance is along the Bayshore Route.
Here it is on the map↓
The address is 3-8 Nishinomiyahama, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Items Still Available
Here’s a bargain item for just 500 yen!

That nostalgic chair kids used to sit on!

A white trash can that looks kind of stylish.
Items currently listed↓

Skis for 1,000 yen are cheap too, aren’t they?
Final Thoughts
This initiative apparently helps reduce the high costs involved in disposal. On top of that, since the garbage can be sold, it brings in at least a little revenue for the city, and buyers are happy because they can purchase items cheaply.
It seems Gamagori City in Aichi Prefecture started a similar initiative in May. Nishinomiya picked up a good idea! We’re looking forward to more interesting initiatives from Nishinomiya City in the future.
