Our Shukugawa lunch roundup article is here↓
A short walk east along Yamate Kansen from Hankyu Shukugawa Station, on the corner of the Kotobukicho-kita intersection, you’ll find a small French restaurant called “Yamazaki.”
It’s an authentic French restaurant, but with a slightly casual feel that makes it easy to step inside.
It’s lively day after day, with local moms at lunchtime and families at dinnertime.
This time, we had the lunch course at “Yamazaki.”

The lunch menu consists of just one lunch course (3,000 yen), but you can choose your main dish.
This time, I chose the “bone-in lamb” (+800 yen).

Having a full course meal for lunch feels so luxurious.

For my drink, I ordered the “domestic white peach juice” (700 yen).
After all, I couldn’t exactly have wine in the middle of the day…

First up was the “appetizer.”
It included fried duck meat and chicken liver pâté, along with salmon and salmon roe carpaccio.

The bread was a baguette.
You can enjoy it with butter and salt to your liking.

This is the “soup.”
It was a carrot and orange soup, served with fried ginger.
It was quite a rich soup, and the sweetness of the carrots really stood out. It was delicious.

The fish dish was “poêlé of white fish” (I did ask what kind of fish it was, but I forgot…).
It came with mussels and choucroute (sauerkraut), topped with a bouillabaisse-style sauce.
The surface of the fish was crisp, while the inside was plump and tender.
The mussels weren’t overcooked either, just right.
This kind of precise control of heat must be where the chef’s skill really shines.
The choucroute added a nice accent too, and it was very tasty.

Next was the main dish, “bone-in lamb.”
The menu mentioned fig, but today it was served with mustard sauce.
What surprised me was how tender the lamb was, and how mild it tasted.
They must be sourcing very young lamb.
Of course, it was absolutely delicious.

Then came dessert, and you could really feel the care put into it as well.
It was black tea crème brûlée topped with rum raisin ice cream, with crunch chocolate on the side.
The brûlée made great use of the black tea flavor, and the ice cream with rum-soaked raisins was a perfect match.

For the after-meal drink, you can choose coffee or tea, and this time I went with hot coffee.
These were served as little sweets with the drink: “ganache with framboise” and “meringue.”
They were served so casually, but even these two items were carefully made.
I was able to enjoy authentic French cuisine right up to the very end.
“Yamazaki (French Cuisine Yamazaki)” Menu
