It looks like you can get from Nishinomiya to Yumeshima, the Osaka-Kansai Expo site, by mamachari bike.

From Nishinomiya City, it’s about 22 km one way, and you can arrive in about 2 hours. Their only breaks were waiting at traffic lights, so that’s some serious stamina. Apparently the ride there felt refreshing, but the way back was exhausting in fierce winds.
Useful bits picked up from the replies
- Battery remaining on the way home: 16Ah electric bike, from 95% at departure to about 60% when arriving home(mainly in long-distance mode / headlight used for about 3 hours)
- Route 2 is easier than National Route 43: Route 43 has lots of elevation changes at bridges, and in some spots you have to take an elevator with your bike. Some sections can’t be used after 10 p.m. → riding on the main roadway is dangerous
- Cycling roads are pitch-dark at night: some sections have no streetlights or toilets. Night riding requires lights and planning
- There’s also info that you can cross from USJ to Tempozan with your bike on a free ferry(from a reader’s reply)
- There’s even a legend who has ridden from Koshien to the Expo several times on a regular mamachari
Three quick safety tips
- Start during the day and keep the headwind on the return trip in mind (be careful, as the Nanko and bay area sides are heavily affected by wind)
- Base your route around Route 2, and check sidewalk widths on bridges in advance
- Decide on your lights, spare battery, and toilet break spots before you GO
The poster said, “Even after the Expo ends, I want to be able to say USJ and Kaiyukan are within biking range.” Sounds like one of those things that gets fun once you try it.

The line at Yumeshima Station. You might have been able to ride home in style on your bike while glancing at this scene. Well, two hours in fierce winds, though lol

Lastly
With an electric bike, there’s always that concern of what to do if the battery runs out on a long-distance ride, but apparently it works better than expected. At the very least, I’d like to bike all the way around Nishinomiya someday.
