The Second Audition Was a One-on-One Interview
In the previous article, I wrote about passing the singing portion of the first audition, and almost immediately after that, the second audition took place.
As before, we arranged the schedule via LINE, and I headed back to the same venue.
The first audition had a large number of participants, so each person’s allotted time was very short. But the second audition was a one-on-one interview with just me, lasting about an hour to an hour and a half.
They haven’t announced how many people took part in the first audition or how many passed, so I don’t know the exact numbers, but it does seem like they narrowed the field down quite a bit in the first round.
The judges for the first audition were the music producers at the core of Music Planet, but the second audition was conducted by a director from the administrative office.
If you compare it to a job interview, it felt like everyone first had an interview with the company president, and then the people who caught the president’s eye were given a second individual interview with an executive.
In a way, it may actually be a very logical and effective method.
Now, for the second audition, it began with a detailed explanation of Music Planet’s activities and what the project involves, followed by a Q&A session.
I can’t write about the details, but here too, I honestly shared my thoughts.
At first, I didn’t think I would pass the singing audition, so I hadn’t really thought about what kind of activities I wanted to do or what kind of songs I wanted to sing. But I told them that if I was going to be active as a singer, I would want to help energize my local community and sing songs for children.
The practical aspects, such as singing ability, had already been judged in the first audition, so perhaps the second audition was more about mindset, motivation, and enthusiasm. Though I don’t know for sure…
In any case, I had a thorough one-on-one conversation with them.
And the Result Was…
A few days later, instead of the group LINE@ messages I had received up until then, I got a direct LINE message from the director who had interviewed me that day.
Of course, it was the notification about whether I had passed the audition.
The result was…
“I passed!!!”
That’s right!!
There was actually a lot more written in the message, but to put it simply, it said I had passed.
Well, even though I only tried out of curiosity, it really does feel good to pass. Of course it does.
My Participation in the Project Was Decided
As I’ve written before, this wasn’t an audition for a record company or talent agency, but an audition to participate in a project called “Music Planet.” So once you pass, you have to decide what kind of activities you’ll be doing from there.
It seems like there’s quite a bit of flexibility in how you can proceed, so it’s not a matter of, “You passed, so you’re starting activities immediately!”
Actually, this audition took place about four months ago.
At the time, I was extremely busy with my work as a writer for Nishitsu, and I wasn’t in any position to start singing activities. But Nishitsu has gained some new writers, and things have settled down a little, so I decided it might be about time to start. That’s why I visited the Music Planet office again the other day.
So now, my activities are finally about to begin, but I’ll write about that next time…
