During the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake 25 years ago, a large-scale landslide occurred in Nigawa Yurinokicho.
I was attending Kwansei Gakuin University nearby at the time, so I remember it very clearly.
Afterward, the landslide site was stabilized to prevent another landslide from happening.
I went to take photos of what the landslide site looks like now, 25 years after the earthquake.

Landslide Museum
A museum has been built on the former landslide site, and it also serves as the monitoring building for the observation system.
I’ll introduce the inside of the museum another time.
Memorial Monument
There is a memorial monument for those who lost their lives in the landslide.
Former Landslide Site
The landslide covered a wide area, but paths have been built around it so visitors can walk around and view the site.
A plaza has been created around the middle of the slope, and today it serves as a relaxing spot for local residents.
That’s what it looks like walking along the route around the site.
Next, here is the slope where the landslide occurred.
It has been stabilized now, but this entire slope is the former landslide site.
Stabilization Work Methods
The former landslide site has been stabilized using various construction methods, and there are signboards explaining them.
In simple terms, the two main methods for preventing landslides are “driving piles into the ground” and “draining water.”
Apparently, groundwater still flows out every day.
Volunteer Group “Yuri no Kai”
At the former landslide site, a volunteer group called “Yuri no Kai” has planted a variety of plants, and visitors can enjoy different plants when they are in season.
It is now also part of Hyogo Prefecture’s “Prefectural Townscape Greening Project,” and receives funding from the prefecture.

As you can see, many different plants have been planted here.
It’s out of season right now, but I think many flowers will bloom in spring.
