The open area next to Katahoko Pond, where Shukugawa Public Hall is located (Shukugawa Riverside Green Space), currently has fencing installed to prohibit cherry blossom viewing, so not many people go in anymore.

It’s not as if you can’t go in as long as you don’t have a party, but having a fence there probably makes people feel hesitant to enter…
And when you take a closer look, the ones using this place as a playground instead of people are…

These birds!
They appear to be grey herons.
Grey herons have lived around Katahoko Pond for a while, but lately they seem to be enjoying this open area too, making the most of all the extra space.

About three of them were playing, circling around the bushes…
