Because growth and farewell happen at the same time.
Male, 30s
I had never cried at anime or movies before, but this made me cry.
Male, 30s
If possible, it’s best to watch it after the TV anime, but the movie in particular had a lot of tearjerking scenes;; Saying goodbye to someone important is painful…
Female, 30s
In episode 1, the part where Goro crashes into Gibson… tears
Female, 20s
I had owned the manga since the first edition. At the time it was more of a minor manga, but then it became a movie through crowdfunding, and the emotion I felt when I watched it in the theater was overwhelming. I was sobbing from the opening and cried all the way to the end (embarrassing).
Female, 30s
It’s set in Nishinomiya and really makes me cry.
Female, teens
From the TV anime to the movie. If you watch them without much time in between, it’s easy to get emotionally invested. It was the first anime movie that made me cry. Mai’s feelings don’t get through to Sakuta. “He might disappear from right in front of me” — Mai realizes that. When I felt that those feelings weren’t reaching him, I cried. Among anime films, it is extremely well made. Not only the portrayal of the protagonist, but also the psychological depictions of the characters. Even though it’s both a youth film and an anime, the story pierces your heart. If I had someone precious to me, someone I wanted to protect, I felt this work would make me reconsider the feelings we tend to take for granted when someone important is close by. It’s an interesting work, and if you watch the TV anime too, you can get even more emotionally involved. It might be my favorite anime movie in the world.
Male, 20s
Everything about it is god-tier.
Male, teens
The part where Misae gets angry and says she’s deliberately playing the bad role for Shin-chan makes me cry when I watch it now as an adult after having a child.
Female, 30s
There’s no way a parent with children wouldn’t cry.
Male, 50s
The visuals are beautiful, and each episode says something really meaningful.
Female, teens
Setsuko is just too pitiful.
Male, 50s
Because it’s a manly supercomputer anime.
Male, 40s
Family love.

Even if you don’t play volleyball, the characters’ words and feelings move you.

The protagonist’s growth and the story structure are excellent and really touch your heart.
Male, 20s
Don’t make me say any more lol

Because I laugh so hard I cry.
Female, teens
You’ll understand if you watch it.
Male, 40s
I didn’t even plan to cry, but the tears just came naturally and wouldn’t stop.
Female, 30s
This has to be the one.
Female, 30s
The protagonist’s life. Family love.
Male, 30s
Every single character’s backstory is incredibly deep.
Female, 50s
The way Nello and Patrasche are mistreated is awful, and it’s too sad that they die in the final episode.
Female, 50s
The scene in the final episode where Bull tries desperately to stop the Genie from being sucked into the jar makes me cry every time.
Male, 40s
It’s old, but there are lots of scenes that make you cry.
Male, 30s
Because sad stories from the characters’ pasts start appearing from episode 2.
Male, 40s
You think the whole thing is a gag anime, but then the ending comes out of nowhere and is so heartbreaking that I sob every time, even though I know what’s coming.
Female, 50s
Because each individual story is deep and really hits you in the heart.
Male, teens
Every episode is a masterpiece. Youth, friendship, family. It has so many themes, but they all come together properly. The music is great too. The timing is perfect.
Male, 30s
Just remembering it makes me cry.
Male, 50s
I can’t play any instruments at all, but a friend recommended it as a good anime, so I casually started watching. Before I knew it, I had binged the whole thing. I think it’s an anime I can recommend even to people who say they aren’t interested in music. There are lots of relatable moments in the detailed depictions of school life and exchanges with friends and lovers, and the characters are distinctive, so I really got emotionally invested! By the second half of the story, tissues weren’t enough, and I was hugging a towel by the ending! Even after it was over, I couldn’t stop crying for a while. It was the first anime since Anohana that made me do a good crying session! I recommend it, so please give it a watch.
Male, 40s
Every single person has a sad event in their past.
Female, 40s
It’s scary.
Female, teens
It’s terrifying.

Female, teens
