The Confectionery Contest Was Held!!
On Tuesday, June 24, the 60th Western Japan Confectionery Contest was held at the Osaka Gas Hug Museum.

Although this is called a confectionery contest, it is not a competition of taste, but one that judges the beauty of the designs.
Of course, technical skill matters, but artistic sense also plays a big role in deciding the winners.
Since Western-style confectionery is said to have originated in Kobe, pastry chefs in western Japan are known to be at a very high level.
There were many outstanding works on display at this year’s contest as well.
A number of pastry chefs from Nishinomiya sweet shops also placed, so let us introduce them.

The Awards Ceremony

The awards ceremony was held in the event plaza inside the museum.
Wow, Tsumagari really is something.
Out of 39 prize winners, a full 8 were craftspeople from Tsumagari.
Just to be clear once again, this is a contest covering all of western Japan.
Not only Hyogo, but cake shops from Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Shiga, and Wakayama were all eligible to participate in this contest, so winning this many awards is truly incredible.
By the way, Studio Suzette is the company you know as Henri Charpentier.
Originally, its headquarters were in Ashiya, but now they are in Nishinomiya. Did you know that?
We’ll definitely want to keep an eye on Nishinomiya’s young pastry chefs going forward.
