The owner of this refreshingly cool voice is a cicada called higurashi!
Its call is often described as “kana kana kana kana~♪”.
It looks like this↓
・It’s a cicada with a beautiful pale green color, and it’s just a little bigger than a tsukutsukuboshi cicada. Males are about 3 to 4 cm long.
・They often sing during the dim light before sunrise and after sunset.
・In darker areas of forests, they also sing during the daytime.
・Their somewhat melancholy call brings to mind the end of summer, but they actually start singing around June.
・Because they often sing at dusk in the evening, they were given the Japanese name “higurashi,” meaning “the one that brings the day to an end.”
