We Tried Yakiniku at Gyubee Souan in Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens!

There is a yakiniku restaurant called “牛兵衛 草庵” on the 4th floor of Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens.

Apparently, this restaurant buys whole Yamagata cattle.

It’s amazing that you can eat Yamagata beef in Nishinomiya.

I’m excited to see what kind of place it is～

Let’s order some food.

The draft beer here (650 yen) is Kirin Ichiban Shibori.

They also have bottled beer.

The grill is lit.

It’s a gas-fired wire grill.

It’s designed so the gas flame doesn’t hit the food directly too much.

First, the salad.

This is the salt choregi salad (750 yen).

Be careful: the regular choregi salad comes with a slightly spicy dressing.

This is tongue with salt (1,400 yen).

It’s cut fairly thick.

The photo shows one serving.

This is the assorted grilled vegetables (800 yen).

The menu lists onion, shishito pepper, zucchini, asparagus, bell pepper, and sweet potato, but the contents may change depending on what’s available.

This time, pumpkin and eggplant were included instead of zucchini and asparagus.

They seem particular about the vegetables they source, too.

This is loin (1,250 yen) and skirt steak (1,000 yen).

Yamagata beef is Japanese Black wagyu, so the marbling really is impressive～

The sauce is soy sauce-based and is provided at the table.

I ordered the grilled shabu-shabu-style lean Yamagata beef (1,800 yen), which had caught my eye on the recommended menu.

Apparently, there’s a trick to how you eat it.

First, spread beef fat on the grill.

Lightly grill both sides…

Wrap it around the accompanying white leek…

And enjoy it with grated daikon ponzu!

Wow, it was delicious.

The extra effort makes it taste twice as good.

This is another item I was curious about: the assorted seared beef sushi tasting set (1,480 yen).

From the left: lean beef (sauce), lean beef (salt), and otoro fatty beef (sauce).

For some reason it’s listed under appetizers on the menu, but I think it’s more the kind of dish you’d want to have at the end of the meal.

Lastly, Morioka cold noodles, small size (750 yen).

The Japanese-style broth has a rich flavor, making it a delicious bowl of cold noodles.

It was the small size, but the portion was still fairly generous.

If you just want something light to finish the meal, the small size should be enough.

The total bill this time was around 12,000 yen, but since this is a Yamagata beef specialty restaurant, you may want to budget around 15,000 to 20,000 yen.

It’s the kind of place you’d want to visit on a special day.
