Do you ever have days when you think, “I just want a quick drink,” or “Maybe just one beer”?
So this time, changing things up a bit from Daa-san’s “Izakaya Drinking for 3,000 Yen” series, Niko is going to try visiting places that seem good for a quick drink.

This time, we visited the standing bar “えびす丸,” located just a 1-minute walk from JR Koshienguchi Station.

Exterior of “えびす丸”
The shop name is partly hidden, but this is the exterior of “えびす丸.”
It was still light out, but when I peeked inside, the place already seemed lively with several customers.
As a woman, I thought this looked like a pretty high hurdle! I started heading back toward the station, when a customer inside who seemed like a regular called out, “Come on in.”
So I thought, “Well then,” and stepped inside.
They made space for me in the middle of the counter, so I ended up standing between regular customers.
Inside “えびす丸”
There were a lot of customers inside, so I couldn’t take a photo of the counter, but since it’s a standing bar, there are of course no seats.
When you enter from outside, the space stretches deep toward the back, and the front area is slightly U-shaped.
It feels like it would be full with about eight adults.

According to the regulars, the menu inside apparently changes every day, but the owner doesn’t tell them what has changed, so they said they “don’t really know.”

My Own Quick-Drink Menu
First, beer.
For food, I ordered the “Chef’s Choice 3-Kind Sashimi Assortment,” which the regulars strongly recommended.
The selling point seems to be that even though it says 3 kinds, it actually comes with 5 kinds!
I thought it would be a 3-kind assortment, but a 5-kind assortment came out, so it felt like a really good deal!
This 5-kind assortment is 580 yen. The sashimi was very fresh and delicious. No wonder it’s the most popular item.
This is “Chilled Tofu with Garlic Chive Sauce” for 200 yen.
Plain chilled tofu gets instantly upgraded thanks to the garlic chive sauce!
This quick drink came to a total of 1,200 yen!! for three items: one beer, the 3-kind sashimi assortment (actually 5 kinds), and chilled tofu with garlic chive sauce.
The sashimi portion was generous, so it was more than enough as a drinking snack.
There seemed to be a lot of regulars, and the shop was very lively. I had a fun time drinking there!
There also seem to be many solo customers, and since the shop is compact, it’s easy to chat with the person next to you and quickly make drinking friends.
It may feel like a high hurdle for a woman visiting alone for the first time, but once you step inside, I think the regulars and the owner will happily strike up conversations with you.
