The distinctive all-black bird with a red and yellow beak is called a “ban” (common moorhen). Apparently, it’s a relative of Okinawa’s rails.
The photo is from around this time last year, showing a parent and chick. I wonder if the chick has grown up by now?
They’re said to have a personality that doesn’t make them too afraid of people, but I wonder what the moorhens at Hinoike are like✨
