We went to check it out on 2/24
Those little bumps sounded way too intriguing, so we went to take a look.
Iwazono Tunnel, written as 岩園隧道(zuidō).

Actually, the moment you enter this tunnel, you’re already in Ashiya City. We wrote about it before as a city-border article～
So, let’s get a little closer.
Up close, it looks like this.
They really do kind of look like LED bulbs. The markings like 追2 500 w-0.2 and 追3 500 w=0.2 are pretty mysterious, too.
The day we took these photos was 2/24. It seems these little bumps had suddenly appeared just a few days earlier.
Then, on March 2↓
Huh?
All those little bumps that had been everywhere were almost completely gone.
Only five were barely still left.
You can still see some marks left by the mysterious bumps, along with bits of masking tape～ They look like BCG vaccine marks
There was this nearby. It says repair work, and it looks like the work is scheduled to finish by March 31. Ashiya City Hall is listed as the ordering party.
So.
We asked someone from the Infrastructure Development Section at Ashiya City Hall～.

Do you know about the cracks (cracks) that form in old walls?
It turns out the mysterious white little bumps inside Iwazono Tunnel were items used to repair cracks that had formed inside the tunnel. Apparently, this repair work is part of the “Long-Life Repair Plan”～
Inside these white tubes that look like LED bulbs, there is apparently a chemical solution used to repair the cracks, and it gets injected kind of like using a dropper. Like Borraginol, maybe?!
The chemical solution is something like an adhesive, and that’s how the cracks are repaired. It looks like the construction work has already been completed.
After looking into it a bit, it seems Iwazono Tunnel was built in Showa 46, or 1971, which means it’s already 53 years old～. No wonder cracks would start to appear.
Old tunnels can feel scary in all kinds of ways, but it’s reassuring to know that safety measures like this are being properly carried out. If there are more mysteries around Nishinomiya, we’d like to solve them through Nishitsu Detective～. Oh, wait, this one’s in Ashiya lol
