Starting March 27, it looks like the “Sakura Walk-Through” at the Koshimizu Water Purification Plant will be open.
The Sakura Walk-Through at Koshimizu Water Purification Plant has been held every year since Showa 23 (1948), and this year will apparently be the 76th time😃
There are said to be about 200 cherry trees in total, with around 120 trees visible along the walk-through route.

About the Koshimizu Water Purification Plant “Sakura Walk-Through”

The cherry blossoms in the “Manchidani” area, where Koshimizu Water Purification Plant is located, are the origin of the now-famous Shukugawa cherry blossoms.

In Taisho 13, more than 100 cherry trees were planted at Koshimizu Water Purification Plant to commemorate the establishment of Nishinomiya’s waterworks. Later, cherry blossom researcher Shintaro Sasabe cultivated varieties including Somei Yoshino, wild cherry, and Satozakura, leading to the trees we see today.
Sasabe also apparently worked on the cherry blossoms at many famous spots, including Osaka Castle Park and the Japan Mint~~! Amazing~~~😆

Finally
The Sakura Walk-Through at Koshimizu Water Purification Plant is well known, but I didn’t realize that these cherry trees were originally planted to commemorate the founding of Nishinomiya’s waterworks, and that they later became Nishinomiya City’s official flower. Knowing that kind of history is behind them makes it feel like there’s something more moving about them than just enjoying how beautiful they are while cherry blossom viewing~~😊
