Located southeast of Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station is “餃子食堂マルケン 西宮北口店” (Gyoza Shokudo Maruken Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi).
It stands out, so I’m sure many of you have been curious about it.
This restaurant is operated by a company called Marche Group, the same group behind “ハッケン酒場,” which we also featured in this izakaya series.
This time, we visited “餃子食堂マルケン 西宮北口店.”

Challenge Start!

First up, we started with a “draft beer” (390 yen).

Since it’s a gyoza restaurant, I figured I’d go for the gyoza…
but first, an appetizer.
This is “cream cheese changja” (330 yen).
It’s the kind of snack that goes perfectly with alcohol.
I finished my beer in no time.

For my second drink, I tried the “Sharikin Lemon Sour” (390 yen).
It’s a frozen-style lemon sour.
It was easy to drink and delicious.
Though it did give me a bit of brain freeze…

And here comes the main event: gyoza.
This is the “Maruken Grilled Gyoza (10 pieces)” (360 yen).
The gyoza is made without garlic, but the subtle ginger flavor comes through, and it was really tasty.
It pairs well with just about any drink, whether beer, highball, or lemon sour.

My third drink was a “Maruken Highball” (350 yen).
The gyoza was so good that the drinks kept going down…

One more snack.
I ordered Maruken’s specialty, “Chashu Egg” (480 yen).
As you can see, this is another dish made to go with drinks.
With this, I quickly finished off the rest of my highball.
Now then, it looks like I can still keep going this time.

Finally, from the dessert menu, I ordered the “Caramelized Ice Pudding” (280 yen).
It’s a half-frozen pudding with a caramelized top.
It was sweet, slightly bitter, cold, and delicious.
So, how much did the bill come to this time?
Here it is!
2,838 yen!!
Huh?
I thought I had pushed it pretty close to the limit…
Maybe I could have ordered a little more.
It’s harder than it looks…
This time I ordered: draft beer, cream cheese changja, Sharikin Lemon Sour, double Maruken Grilled Gyoza, Maruken Highball, Chashu Egg, and Caramelized Ice Pudding.
That was everything!
