It looks like Nishinomiya City’s garbage disposal rules will change starting in April.
A lot is changing, but from Nishi2’s point of view, remembering just these two things first may be enough for most people.
The two things to remember first this time
- PET bottles and cans can be put out together in the same “common designated bag”
- Glass bottles will be collected “twice a month,” not “every week”
目次
The biggest change is that “cans and PET bottles can go together”
PET bottles and cans will be allowed to be put out together in the same bag
Please note that “cans from canned food” are classified as other non-burnable garbage. (We had written that cans from canned food could also be put out together. That was incorrect. Sorry🙏)
Honestly, this is a pretty big change, isn’t it?
Basically, it works like this.

On the same collection day, just put cans and PET bottles into the “common designated bag” and you’re good to go.
Glass bottles will change from “weekly” to “twice a month”
The other thing that’s changing is glass bottles.
Glass bottles will no longer be collected every week, but twice a month.

In other words, the container will only be used “when putting out glass bottles.”
【A rough summary】
- PET bottles and cans → common designated bag
- Glass bottles → container (collection twice a month)
Looking at the whole system, it’s honestly a little complicated. So this time, if we narrow it down to the parts that are likely to have the biggest impact on daily life, that’s the gist.
Actually, Nishi2 has already put together a summary here↓
Garbage is part of everyday life, after all
When garbage rules are explained as a system, they can sound complicated, but this is something directly tied to daily life.
“Sorting is confusing”
“Designated bags are hard to understand”
“It’s difficult for elderly family members to take out the garbage”
“I’m having trouble with my apartment building’s own garbage rules”
There are probably small questions like these that build up over time. And with the mayoral election coming up this time, it seems like quite a few people may be thinking, “Honestly, how is Nishinomiya’s garbage administration doing?”
【We’re looking for things you’re having trouble with or want to ask about garbage】
・This sorting rule is honestly confusing
・This part of the designated bag system is inconvenient
・I wish there were better support for elderly people taking out garbage
・I’m having trouble with my apartment building’s garbage rules
・There’s something I’d like to ask prospective candidates

Oh, and apartment owners who want to make their garbage area look stylish can check this out↓
Before the mayoral election, we’d like to gather everyone’s “That’s what I was struggling with!” points, ask prospective candidates and related people about them, and organize them into an article.
