I visited “越木岩,” a place we previously covered in an opening-news article.
By day, it serves tsukemen; by night, it becomes a yakiton restaurant. This time, I went during lunch and tried the tsukemen.
“越木岩” Food
I ordered the “Shrimp Tomato Tsukemen” (950 yen).
It looks like the menu is built mainly around shrimp-based soups.
This is the shrimp and tomato soup.
The shrimp broth is really pronounced. Rather than just tasting like shrimp stock, it tastes like shrimp itself.
The tomato flavor is also strong, so it feels almost like eating an Italian stew.
Apparently they also use tonkotsu, but the shrimp and tomato flavors are definitely front and center.
You can choose either warm or cold noodles.
Since I’m sensitive to hot foods, I went with the cold noodles.
The noodles are tossed with basil and olive oil, so this really feels completely Italian.
They were smooth, firm, and had a great bite.
The soup is quite thick too, so it clings nicely to the noodles.
In the end, I drank every last bit of the soup.
It really felt like drinking a mix of beef stew and bisque, and it was very delicious.

This is the lunchtime tsukemen menu.
So this is essentially a “shrimp tsukemen” restaurant.

Look for this noren curtain.
Once you pass through the curtain, there is a staircase.
