On the second-floor concourse at Hankyu Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station, there’s a large clock in the center with several bells attached.
This spot is commonly known as “Carillon Square.”
A “carillon” is an instrument made up of multiple bells that can play melodies, and this one has 17 bells.
It looks like this.
9:00 “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad”
12:00 “Sumire no Hana Saku Koro”
15:00 “Lorelei”
18:00 “Yuyake Koyake”
These melodies are played four times a day.
This carillon was installed when the “Diamond Crossing” at Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station was removed and the station’s second floor was built.
There’s also an exhibit about it at “Takamatsu Hinata Ryokuchi,” next to Gardens.
As written there, today it’s beloved as a new symbol of the station, replacing the former “Diamond Crossing.”
As you can see, it’s a popular place for many residents to relax and meet up.
There are also beautiful flowers planted at the base of the clock.
