Previously, when we did a tapioca feature, we introduced this shop as “the birthplace of tapioca milk tea.” But this place offers not only tapioca, but also a variety of Taiwanese foods.
Restaurants where you can enjoy Taiwanese cuisine may be surprisingly rare in Nishinomiya.
This time, we visited “Chun Shui Tang Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens” and tried some popular Taiwanese dishes.

Taiwanese Cafe “Chun Shui Tang Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens” Food
They have an especially wide selection of noodle dishes, but this time I went with the “Mala Paiko Tan Tan Noodles” (麻辣排骨担々麺) (1,078 yen).
排骨 is read as “paiko” or “paikoo,” and refers to a dish made by coating pork spare ribs in flour and deep-frying them.
When served over rice, it becomes “paiko rice,” and when served over noodles, it becomes “paiko noodles.”
So this dish is essentially a combination of “paiko noodles” and “tan tan noodles.”
By the way, “mala” refers to seasoning made with chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns (in other words, spicy).
You can choose the spice level from 0 to 4, and I decided to be a little adventurous and try level 3.
I took a bite with some nervous anticipation…
It was definitely spicy, but not as spicy as I had expected.
The soup had plenty of umami within the heat, with the aromas of sesame, garlic, and green onion adding nice accents.
The noodles were distinctive flat noodles, and the toppings included paiko, bean sprouts, bok choy, and more.
It made my mouth tingle from the spice, but it was the kind of deliciousness that somehow keeps you eating.
