Koshienhama has tidal flats that formed after the war, and they have become an important habitat for aquatic life and for the wild birds that feed on those creatures. (The area is designated as the nationally protected Hamakoshien Wildlife Protection Area.)
The tidal flats at Koshienhama have been shrinking due to the effects of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and other factors. Nishinomiya City has been carrying out various efforts to restore them, and the base for those efforts is the Koshienhama Nature Environment Center, located inside Hamakoshien Sports Park.
Here, visitors can observe the tidal flats and wild birds, as well as enjoy various exhibits, making it a fun place to learn about the natural environment of Koshienhama.
I’d like to introduce the Koshienhama Nature Environment Center mainly through photos.
The facility is located inside this park.
This is the entrance.
Anyone is free to enter.
Just inside, there is a “mini-mini aquarium” like this.
The aquarium’s main attraction: an alligator gar.
Many other fish are on display as well.
There are also panel displays about plants.
On the walls of the stairs leading up to the 2nd and 3rd floors, wild birds that can be seen at Koshienhama are displayed.
There is an office on the 2nd floor, and when you go up to the 3rd floor, you’ll find a learning room like this.
Wild birds are also observed from here.
If you’d like to look through the telescope, try asking one of the staff members.
Of course, there is an eco stamp too.
The exhibits are nicely put together, and I was able to learn about the nature of Koshienhama in a pretty fun way.
