There is a restaurant zone called “Food Stadium” on the 2nd floor of LaLaport Koshien.
The place we visited this time, “新宿さぼてん,” is a tonkatsu restaurant in that area.
Apparently they serve various kinds of katsu besides tonkatsu too, so what kind of restaurant is it?
“新宿さぼてん” Food
There were all kinds of items on the menu, but for the first visit, it had to be the pork loin cutlet…
So I ordered the “Aged Sangen Mugibuta Pork Loin Katsu Set Meal (110g)” (1,180 yen).
Cabbage refills are free.
As a COVID-19 measure to reduce contact, a heaping pile of cabbage was brought to the table in advance. But when it’s sitting right in front of you, you just keep eating it endlessly…
The miso soup is akadashi, a red miso soup.
I added grated yam for an extra 100 yen.
The grated yam is already seasoned with dashi, so you can pour it straight over the rice.
It has a light dashi flavor that makes the rice go down even faster.
Rice and akadashi soup refills are also free.
And here is the main dish, the pork loin katsu.
Lean fillet katsu is great too, but when it comes to tonkatsu, pork loin is the classic starting point.
The savory flavor of the meat, the sweetness of the fat, the crisp texture of the coating…
It let me fully enjoy everything that makes tonkatsu so wonderful.
And of course, after the meal, I had a “Hot Coffee” (150 yen).
It definitely fills you up, and it’s a good-value lunch too.
