A restaurant called “和香” has opened in a residential area of Egamicho.
It opened in April, then temporarily closed soon after due to the impact of COVID-19, but with things finally settling down, it resumed business last month.
It’s not an izakaya, but a small Japanese-style dining spot, and this time we stopped by for a visit.

Challenge Start!
This time, I’ll start with sake.
This is “Daiginjo Namachozo Kamenoo (glass)” (800 yen).
There used to be a manga and TV drama called “Natsuko no Sake,” and this sake from Kusumi Sake Brewery in Niigata is famous for being connected to the model for that story. “Kamenoo” was originally the name of a sake rice variety (though it seems this sake uses Yamada Nishiki).
I had it chilled. It was slightly sweet, easy to drink, and had a refined, premium flavor.
The first dish was “Simmered Komatsuna and Atsuage” (400 yen).
All the dishes are handmade, gentle on the body, and full of homestyle obanzai-style items.
This simmered dish was very tasty too, with seasoning that goes perfectly with drinks.
For the second dish, I ordered “Fried Chicken Wings” (500 yen).
This is another classic dish to have with drinks.
The seasoning is a little on the rich side, so the drinks just keep going.
I had planned to stick with sake today, but next I went with this “Bottled Beer” (600 yen).
The bottled beer is Sapporo Lager Beer.
Chicken wings really do call for beer, don’t they?
One bite of chicken wing is enough to make you take about three sips of beer…
To finish, I had this “Meat-Wrapped Rice Ball” (250 yen).
The fragrant soy sauce flavor matched the rice ball perfectly, and it was really delicious.
I ate it as my finishing dish, but it was so good it almost made me want to drink again (though I held back).
Now, time for the bill.
How did it turn out?
This time, the total was!
2,800 yen!!!
That’s what it came to!!
Maybe I could have pushed it a little further…
What I ordered this time was: Daiginjo Namachozo Kamenoo (glass), Simmered Komatsuna and Atsuage, Fried Chicken Wings, Bottled Beer, and Meat-Wrapped Rice Ball.
