The request was: “Dear Nishi2 Detective, my child attends Koyoen Elementary School. Could you look into the six-way intersection near Co-op Koyoen? When driving through it, I sometimes get confused about which traffic light to look at and where to stop, and I’ve seen cars that seem lost too. The Traffic Light Pattern at the “Six-Way Intersection”

1. The light blue arrows get a green light
2. The orange arrows get a green light
3. The pink arrows get a green light

It repeated steps 1 to 3. For each colored arrow, both right and left turns are allowed.

Traffic Light Wait Times

We measured how long it took from when the light turned red until it turned green again.

Where Drivers Get Confused

When turning right from the Kabutoyama Forest Park direction, the light is red. But from the perspective of cars making that right turn, all the surrounding traffic lights are red, so some cars seem to think, “Since I already turned right, maybe it’s okay,” and continue on. Sometimes the cars behind follow along, and that may be why drivers end up unsure what to do, thinking, “But the light is red…”

However, if you turn left from Koyoen Station toward Kwansei Gakuin, the light is green, so you can continue straight through.

Final Thoughts

There is an elementary school in the direction of Koyoen Station, and we often see children crossing this intersection on their way to and from school. Let’s put safety first and do our best to prevent accidents.
