If you have young children, have you ever used a kosodate hiroba (child-rearing support space) or children’s center near your home?
No reservation required, and free to use. These are places where children can play together, moms and dads can connect, casually ask questions about parenting, and get helpful information for raising children.
Today we’re introducing “Kosodate Hiroba KANKAN Kankan,” which opened this January.

The address is Techno Hills Room 105, 3-15 Kawarabayashicho, Nishinomiya, Hyogo.
It’s located along Yamate Kansen Road. If you walk a little west, you’ll find McDonald’s Yamate Kansen Nishinomiya and Hard Off Nishinomiya.
Yamachan Animal Hospital is on the first floor, and KANKAN is on the second floor.
Bicycle parking is available. Please park bicycles in area B on the north side of the building.There is no car parking, so please use a nearby coin parking lot.
It is open Monday through Friday, from 9:30 to 14:30. There’s no lunch break, which is helpful because you can visit around your child’s morning or afternoon nap schedule.
Press the intercom before entering, and please leave strollers at the bottom of the stairs. There is no elevator.
KANKAN is on the second floor. There is also a door that only adults can open, so children can’t go in and out on their own, making it a reassuring place to let them play.
There are two rooms, both with toys.
The room right by the entrance has a ball pit, pretend-play toys, picture books, wooden toys, toy cars, blocks, and more.
It is for preschool-aged children. Judging by the toys, I felt it was especially suited for children around 0 to 3 years old.
The bulletin board is filled with local parenting information and word-of-mouth tips. There are also plenty of parenting books.It’s nice to be able to get the latest information.
The room next door has a wooden slide, a wooden ball pit, and more.There is also a baby bed and futon bedding.
It is also equipped with a diaper-changing table, baby scale, and children’s toilet.
Various events and classes are also held, including baby massage, water play, and crafts. (Some require a fee, and some require reservations.)
There is also a corner where outgrown children’s clothes and unused baby items are offered for free.

This free play space opened this January as part of the Nishinomiya City Regional Child-Rearing Support Base Program. Spending time with children of the same age can be a stimulating experience for your child, and it will surely be a good time for us parents as well. If you have young children, please consider visiting at least once.
