Haruhi-related events are being held in Nishinomiya until August 31.
I tried taking part in the stamp rally the other day, and it looks like there are some other interesting events going on too.

This is the pamphlet that was being handed out, and there’s something on it that caught my eye.

What on earth is this?
Looks like something fun might happen…
Let’s try it right away!

What is the smartphone app “ARUNO”?
Apparently, this app is an original app by Hyoda Printing, a printing company in Nishinomiya.
Speaking of Hyoda Printing, they’re the company handling the printed materials for this event.
It didn’t come up when I searched on Google or Yahoo, so I tried searching in the app store.

There it is~
Look for the mark that looks like this owl.
Try searching for “ARUNO” or “アルノ.”
Let’s install it and open it up right away.

As usual, it asked for various permissions and agreement to the terms of use.
That part feels about the same as other apps.
Once I agreed to the terms of use…

The app suddenly launched and displayed “Please scan the QR code.”
I was a little surprised, but I tried holding it over the QR code on the pamphlet.

This one.
Then…

A message appeared saying, “Let’s head out on a sacred site tour!”
When I tapped it…

This screen appeared.
Tap the menu in the upper left and it takes you to the menu screen.

When you tap the event name at the top, the event-related menu is displayed.

Tap “Let’s head out on a sacred site tour!” at the top and it opens the map screen.
It seems that tapping the name of each location shows an explanation of that spot.

Like this.
It looks like this app also shows where the stamp rally stamps are set up and where the posters are displayed.
But what really seems important in this app are the spots marked with camera icons.
Apparently, if you launch the app and go to a location with a camera icon, something happens.
What is AR, or augmented reality?
So let’s head to a nearby camera icon location.
With that, I went to Shukugawa Riverside Park.
When I tapped “Launch Camera” in the center of the screen…

The camera launched, and this appeared.
Since this place is a camera icon point, I tapped again.

Then some kind of image floated up.
It seems to be a scene from the anime.
Since this image is fixed on the screen, I looked around the area like that…

Whoa!!!
It matches perfectly!!
You can take photos that overlay scenes from the anime onto the actual location~~
So cool!!
I was impressed, so let’s go to one more spot!!
I’m heading to the Suidorō railroad crossing near Kōyōen Station!!

This one matches perfectly too.
Kyon and Haruhi are there in a place I usually pass by without thinking…
There’s a lot of traffic here, so please be careful when taking photos.
I was planning to stop after about two spots, but I got carried away and ended up going all over the place.
Here are the photos.
I won’t write the locations, so please go and check them out for yourself.

List of camera icon (spot image) points
The camera icon points seem to be at the following locations.
・Shukugawa Riverside Park
・Central Library
・Hinoike Pool
・Kansai Super Hirota
・Hirota Shrine
・Suidorō Railroad Crossing
・Central Sports Park
・Shinike
・Road along the Kōyō Line tracks
・Stairs on the school route
・Former Shukugawa Junior College site
・Ginsuibashi Bridge
・In front of Kōyōen Station
・Inside Kōyōen Station
・Kyon’s school route (near Nakasumi Kadan)
・Volks Nishinomiya
・Hyogo Prefectural Nishinomiya Kita High School
・Slope in front of Kita High School (Haruhi-zaka)
・Kita High School West Gate
・Nishikita Shopping Street
・Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station Front Park
・Coffee-ya Dream (former location before relocation)
・Kōfūen No. 1 Railroad Crossing
・Sports Dream Kawaragi
・Hanshin Koshien Stadium
・Mukogawa Riverside Park
That’s all.
Actually going around to all of these is pretty intense.
Even for me, with a good sense of the area, I don’t think it would be possible in one day.
If you’re visiting Nishinomiya for the first time and want to see them all, you should probably allow 2 to 3 days.
Also, some places have fairly narrow roads or lots of cars and pedestrians, so please be very careful.
I’m going to try to visit as many as I can too!!
