A Kumamoto local cuisine restaurant called “カルデラ食堂” has opened in Kotoen.
Here it is ↓

Here it is on the map ↓
The address is 2-2-37 Kotoen, Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, Leman Koto 104.
There used to be a hamburger shop called Blue Gorilla here. We couldn’t find out when it closed. It seems to have still been open around March.
Area Around “カルデラ食堂”

If you go this way, you’ll reach a T-junction where Kobayashi Beikokuten and other shops are located. Turn right and continue straight to Paseo Koto. Turn right before the railroad crossing and go straight along the tracks to reach FamilyMart and Kotoen Station. This route was 220 meters to the station.

If you go in the opposite direction, Nishinomiya Kotoen Post Office is next door. Continue left at the end of the road, go along the street where Nigirizushi Raion and other spots are located, then turn right at the intersection with a bicycle parking area on the left. There’s a FamilyMart there, and beyond that is Kotoen Station. This route is 190 meters to Kotoen Station, so going from the post office side is 30 meters closer!
A Place to Try Kumamoto Local Cuisine
It seems to have opened on July 22.
According to Hot Pepper Gourmet, カルデラ食堂 appears to be a restaurant serving Kumamoto local cuisine made with horse meat.
They seem to have dishes like grilled and simmered horumon made with horse large intestine.
Menu and Prices
The menu really has a Kumamoto feel, with items like horse meat beef stew for 1,000 yen before tax and deep-fried pig’s feet for 580 yen before tax.
Hours and Other Info
The restaurant seems to have irregular closing days.
Lunch is 11:30–14:00 (L.O. 13:30)
Dinner is 17:30–24:00 (L.O. 23:30)
The restaurant appears to be entirely non-smoking.
Finally
For people originally from Kumamoto, this is probably the kind of place that makes them say, “This takes me back!” Of course, if you’re curious about what Kumamoto local cuisine is like, or if you like horse meat, why not check it out?
