“HOTTERS24,” a 24-hour, year-round, monthly membership private sauna in Uegahara, opens on February 11.
Believe it or not, it’s a men-only sauna.
Women should absolutely not look at this. (Well, looking is fine. You just can’t go in.)
This time, Nishi2 was specially given the chance to take a look inside, so we’ll show you what it was like.

Now then, Nishinomiya, let’s check out this world-first spot.
Here’s the exterior.
It’s next to Anytime Fitness. The parking lot is spacious too, so it’s easy to come by car.
As you’d expect from a place you can use anytime, 24 hours a day, it has facial recognition.
What’s more, it can recognize you even with a mask on, so it might be better than an iPhone! It also automatically checks your temperature.
Right after entering, you put your shoes in the locker on the right and head inside.
One of the shop’s concepts is “You can come empty-handed!”
So sauna pants and towels are available for free. The sauna pants come in two reliable, worry-free sizes.
This is the changing area.
For now, the table in the front has been temporarily placed there for membership sign-ups. When it opens, it seems the chairs in the back will be arranged along the wall.
What could this be??
Yep. It’s the shower room! Wash up before entering the sauna.
Now, look up!
Next to the ventilation fan in the back is a waterfall shower!! It’s that thing that seems great for your scalp. Feels like it would wash away sebum nicely.
The one in front with tons of holes is an overhead shower. The kind that feels like rain. Bet that feels amazing.
Body soap, shampoo, and such that look stylish enough to make you popular, the kind I’ve never used before.

What is thiiiiis? That’s the kind of space spreading out before you.
First, we’ve got to check the instructions.
It explains how to achieve what sauna fans call “totonou.”
Drink water, enter the sauna, cool down, rest. It gives recommended times too, so it’s beginner-friendly.
Repeat this three times. Then you totonou.

So first, let’s drink some water.
This blacklight-like look is pretty cool.
Of course it has cold water, but it even dispenses hot water too. (Though I probably wouldn’t drink the hot water.)
Now, into the private sauna ↓
There are five private sauna rooms.
There’s a small window, so you can tell whether someone is inside.
Whoaーーー! It’s totally private!
It’s the solo sauna I’ve dreamed of. So niceーーー.
You can’t tell from the photo, but the hinoki cypress scent was just too good, enough to make you feel satisfied from that alone.
And get this! Since it’s for one person only, you can freely do löyly without worrying about anyone else.
(Löyly is when you pour water over hot stones to create steam. It raises the perceived temperature. More details here)
A typical sauna is 80 to 90 degrees. And many have tiered benches, where the first level is apparently around 60 to 70 degrees.
Here, you can set the temperature to 80, 90, or 100 degrees.

Normally the next step would be the cold bath, but at the cutting-edge HOTTERS24, it’s a little different.

A little room that feels like a blue grotto, and you absolutely want to go inside.
In this otherworldly space, you cool your heated body down all at once with a cold room and a powerful fan.
Well then, shall we take a rest?
Here’s an incredibly relaxing space.
For the second thing photos can’t convey: the sound of a waterfall.
Plus, relaxing sound effects play at just the right volume.
That sound really makes your mind drift smoothly, so smoothly.
Oh. You’re probably wondering about that glowing save point on the right.
Yep. A refrigerator.
You can keep your favorite drink chilled.
That’s right, they sell drinks too.
If you thought, “Whoa! Beer, nice!” it’s non-alcoholic. Alcohol in a sauna is dangerous, after all.
Personally, I’d go with Pocari Sweat or Dekavita. But plain water is probably the strongest choice. Of course, pick whatever you like.
They also have an AED! The steps for CPR are written there too.
