This year, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Shukugawa Station was held again on November 29, so I went to check it out.
Scenes from the lighting ceremony
The location was next to the taxi stand at Shukugawa Station. Unlike usual, lots of people had gathered.
There were so many kids. Maybe they were going to sing something?
Mayor Ishii was there too.
After the greetings, it was finally time to light the tree!
Here’s a video of the moment the lights came on!
This year’s Christmas tree
Here’s what the Christmas tree looks like after being lit up.
Actually, the snowman is new this year.
This event has been held since 1948, and this year marks its 78th time.
When will it be lit?
November 29, 2025 to the early hours of December 25, 2025
What time will it be lit?
From 5:00 p.m. to midnight
*However, it will reportedly stay lit all night on December 24 and 25.
In closing
It’s amazing that this lighting ceremony has continued 78 times. I’m sure the founders, Mr. and Mrs. Ohara, would be happy to see it. Be sure to stop by on your way home from school or work.
