Have you heard of the recently opened restaurant “ミア食堂” under the elevated tracks near Hanshin Nishinomiya?
I’d been curious about it for a while too, so I went to check it out.
Apparently, “Mia” means “my” in Italian.
I wonder what kind of place it is.
“ミア食堂” Food
It’s hard to choose, but let’s go with the Mia Shokudo Dinner.
You can choose from six main dishes, and this time I went with the pork steak (1,380 yen).
It comes as a set with the main dish, today’s topped rice, pickles, pork soup minestrone, and two kinds of obanzai side dishes.
The topped rice is apparently made with rice cooked in a clay pot, with a different topping added each day. Since it’s clay-pot rice, it takes about 30 minutes.
If you’re in a hurry, you can switch to regular white rice, but since we’re here, you’ll want to enjoy the clay-pot rice.
So, we wait 30 minutes.
The waiting time really builds up the anticipation~~
This is the Mia Shokudo Dinner (pork steak).
Wow, I waited for this.
It’s a gorgeous dinner that’s worth the wait.
But hold on a second.
An hourglass was brought out with it.
They said to wait until the sand runs out so the clay-pot rice can finish steaming.
They really make you wait~~

After all that waiting, the clay pot is opened!

That’s clay-pot rice for you.
Now we ride today’s toppings onto the rice.
Today’s topping was salted squid guts.
Add the condiments too: shiso leaf, nori, and green onion.
Wow, this looks delicious.
This is the pork soup minestrone.
A fusion of Japanese and Italian.
Both the tomato and pork bring out plenty of umami, so the flavors multiply through that synergy.
These are the obanzai side dishes.
The vegetables are set in a consommé jelly.
Maybe it’s best described as a kind of aspic.
Since it blends Japanese and Western styles, I’m not quite sure what to call it, but the rich consommé really whets the appetite.
It seems like it would go well with both sake and wine (though I didn’t drink any).
This is the main pork steak.
Typical pork steak is often seasoned with a Worcestershire sauce-based flavor, but this one uses an onion and red wine sauce.
They use two kinds of onion: onion that’s thoroughly sautéed to bring out its sweetness, and onion that still keeps its shape.
The mushrooms also work perfectly as a supporting ingredient.
The doneness was just right too, and it was delicious.

So it really is a place where you can enjoy drinks.
They seem to recommend the all-you-can-drink option.
This is the menu, and it’s really packed not only with drinks but with food as well.
Italian food seems to be at the center of it, but you can also enjoy Japanese dishes and meat dishes.

The interior has the atmosphere of a “stylish dining hall.”
It looks like this.
It works well whether you’re alone, in a small group, or with a larger group.
For a place called a dining hall, the drinks are also quite extensive.
The drink corner has all kinds of alcohol, from sake to wine.
It’s like a mix between a dining hall and a bar.
